THE LITURGICAL OPERAS also known as "CHANCEL OPERAS"™ or "CHURCH OPERAS".
What is a LITURGICAL OPERA (also called a "CHANCEL OPERA`"™`)?	Our liturgical (or "church" or "chancel") operas are short pieces designed to replace the sermon in the worship service. Action takes place in the "chancel" -- that is, the elevated area approaching the altar, between the choir stalls in most churches. We also perform some of the stories from the Old Testament (Holy Scripture) in reformed synagogues; in this case, action takes place before the congregation, near the bhima.
On what are CHANCEL OPERAS™ based, and what are they like?	The chancel operas are based on Bible stories from Holy Scripture (Old Testament) and the New Testament. They are melodic, fresh, and accessible to first-time listeners. Prop, costume and lighting requirements are simple, so that the worship may continue with a minimum of disturbance.
Who performs these CHANCEL OPERAS™?	Connecticut composer and pianist Susan Hulsman Bingham wrote the music presented in this site. The Children's and Liturgical Opera of Connecticut has performed most of the works, and other companies and schools have performed them as well. We hope that you will join the fun by performing some of the pieces in the Children's and Liturgical Opera's library yourselves.
